Firmus secures US$41bn deal with OpenAI for 900MW capacity in Asia and Australia
Firmus Technologies has locked a multi-year pact with OpenAI, securing $41 billion in estimated capital spending to build AI compute facilities across Southeast Asia and Australia.
Firmus Technologies is preparing for the largest initial public offering on the Australian Securities Exchange this decade. The move follows the company signing a major agreement with OpenAI, a leading artificial intelligence organization. Under the terms of this deal, OpenAI will contract dedicated computing capacity provided by Firmus. This partnership marks the first time Firmus will operate large-scale factories in Malaysia. The collaboration aims to create two AI manufacturing sites. Two smaller locations are currently active, with plans for five additional factories to open by late 2028. These operations span Australia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia. Firmus intends to form long-term strategic partnerships to anchor OpenAI as its primary customer. The contract targets a total installed capacity of 900 megawatts. Financial analysts estimate this computing power equates to $41 billion in capital expenditure. Tim Rosenfield, co-founder of Firmus Technologies, stated the company spent seven years developing this infrastructure across Southeast Asia and Australia.
