Abu Dhabi Sphere construction enters active delivery phase on Yas Island

Construction work on the Abu Dhabi Sphere has moved into an active delivery phase on Yas Island, marking a significant milestone for ALEC Holdings. Ground works, piling, and soil improvement activities are currently underway between Yas Mall and SeaWorld Abu Dhabi. The project cost is valued at Dh6.4 billion, roughly equivalent to $1.7 billion, and is the largest single contract in ALEC's current backlog. Barry Lewis, chief executive of ALEC Holdings, stated that design, procurement, and construction must proceed simultaneously due to the scale and complexity of the venue. He noted the sequencing is particularly demanding because each phase relies heavily on the completion of the previous one with minimal room for deviation. AtkinsRéalis has been appointed as the lead designer while permit applications are submitted. The project, originally expected in May, was delayed until a contractor secured the award from the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi. Sphere Abu Dhabi is scheduled to open by the end of 2029 and will become the second Sphere worldwide, the first located outside the United States. The venue will span approximately 150 meters.
