Sarytogan achieves 97.7% battery-grade graphite yield from Central Kazakhstan deposit

Sarytogan has produced high-quality coated spherical purified graphite exceeding industry purity and density benchmarks using testwork on a sample from its Central Kazakhstan asset.

Sarytogan has achieved a breakthrough in processing its graphite assets by producing coated spherical purified graphite that meets lithium-ion battery specifications. Testwork on a 24-tonne bulk sample from the company's deposit in Central Kazakhstan yielded 97.7 per cent of high-quality product, significantly surpassing the standard 50 to 60 per cent range expected in the industry. The resulting material featured purity levels greater than 99.99 per cent, compared to typical requirements of 99.95 per cent. Additionally, the graphite recorded a tap density between 0.99 and 1.26 grams per cubic centimeter, improving upon previous results and exceeding industry benchmarks of roughly one gram per cubic centimeter. This level of purity and yield is considered crucial for production economics as it maximizes the portion of mined material converted into high-value battery anodes rather than lower-value by-products. The company stated these findings during a test cycle involving its massive deposit.
