Consensys Splits MetaMask into Standalone Consumer Firm by End of 2026

Consensys Software Inc. is dividing its operations, creating a standalone company for MetaMask consumer products and a separate entity for Ethereum protocols led by Joe Lubin.

Consensys Software Inc. announced a corporate restructuring plan to split its business into two independently operated companies by the end of 2026. The existing legal entity will continue as MetaMask, focused solely on consumer products, with Ethereum co-founder Joe Lubin serving as chairman and chief executive. Its protocols group and institutional infrastructure operations will move to a newly formed company retaining the Consensys name, where Mike Kriak will become chief executive and David Cunningham will serve as president. The separation gives MetaMask its own corporate identity after being developed inside Consensys for ten years. Users will see no immediate changes to the application, assets, or access rights; no action is required from them regarding the reorganisation. While the split is finalised by late 2026, neither company has provided a timetable for an initial public offering or indicated plans to list on stock markets. A spokesperson declined to comment on potential future capital-market activities.
