Primark to Launch Home Deliveries in Britain After Four Years of Resistance

Primark plans to start shipping products directly to homes in Britain, a move it has resisted for four years.

Associated British Foods (ABF), the owner of Primark, announced a decision to introduce home delivery services in Britain. The fashion retailer had never sold goods online until late 2022 when it launched a click-and-collect service requiring shoppers to visit physical stores. This new service involves a newly purchased warehouse in Sheffield used for shipping products directly to customers' residences. ABF executives stated that this shift could drive profitable growth and help boost trade after recent hot weather resulted in subdued sales figures. The company noted that trading improved as the cooler autumn season approached. Analysts suggest the long delay in adopting delivery options highlights significant pressure from ultra-fast-fashion competitors such as Shein. Predictions indicate Primark's UK sales will increase by approximately 1 percent in the fourth quarter of the year. However, like-for-like sales in the United Kingdom are expected to remain broadly flat while global operations face a projected decline of three percent.
