£3 billion in finance backs Ayrton clean energy innovations in 100 nations
The Ayrton-Fund-supported network has expanded to 100 countries, funding over 46 million people's access to clean energy while generating more than £2.4 billion in research outputs.
Researchers, government officials, and industry experts are meeting at the University of Oxford for the Ayrton-Oxford Academic Symposium. The event is organized by the UK Government's Ayrton Fund, the Africa-Oxford Initiative, the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office, the Transforming Energy Access Learning Partnership, and UK Research and Innovation. Participants aim to strengthen international partnerships to support energy access, economic growth, and climate resilience.
The Ayrton network currently covers 100 countries, involving 78 universities and more than 840 innovators. Supported innovations have improved clean energy access for 46 million people in emerging economies. This impact has attracted more than £3 billion in public and private finance. The program also created more than 256,000 green jobs across the globe.
Partnerships have produced 191 technology patent applications and more than 2,400 research papers. Organizers stated that the symposium will examine how universities, researchers, policymakers, investors, and companies can collaborate to move laboratory research into practical applications.
