Melanie Wilson moves shop 20 miles to cut £300 weekly diesel costs

Melanie Wilson, an antique shop owner based in Banff, moved her business from Insch to Turriff, Aberdeenshire earlier this month. She reduced her commute by exactly 20 miles and cut her diesel expenses in half. Previously, she spent over £300 per week on fuel for travel and daily operations. Her new location allows her to spend less than £150 weekly on diesel. Wilson stated that soaring fuel costs made the previous commute unjustifiable. In one specific week alone, UK fuel prices increased by about 5p. Wholesale oil prices have recently surpassed $100 a barrel after tensions in the Middle East resurfaced following the US-Israel war with Iran which began on February 28. Prices had fallen during a framework deal agreed between the US and Iran in June but are now climbing again. Many residents in rural Scottish areas rely on cars for work and life, leaving them vulnerable to these transportation costs.
