Robinhood crypto volume reaches $17.5 billion in August despite year-over-year decline
August trading volume hit $17.5 billion, with Bitstamp contributing over half the total despite being down 38% compared to the same period last year.
Robinhood reported that its cryptocurrency trading volume increased 61% month-on-month in August, reaching $17.5 billion. The data appeared in the company's August 2026 operating report published on Thursday. Bitstamp remained the primary source of volume, accounting for $10.1 billion of the total, while the Robinhood app contributed $7.4 billion. Although Bitstamp's volume rose 53% from July, it was down 30% year-on-year. The Robinhood app volume grew 72% month-on-month but fell 46% compared to August 2025. Bitstack's contribution to the second quarter exceeded that of the app, representing $22 billion out of $40 billion in total crypto volumes. Transaction revenue from crypto dropped 38% year-over-year to $100 million in the second quarter. Revenue from event contracts, options, and equities more than offset the decline in crypto earnings, resulting in record quarterly revenue for the brokerage. The August figures excluded volume generated through the Robinhood Chain.
