More than 120 organizations, including Energy UK, the CBI, and charities like Age UK, have urged the UK chancellor to remove hidden taxes from energy bills. These groups include signatories in a letter to John Healey regarding his upcoming budget on 28 October. The organizations criticize current levies amounting to 10% of energy bills that fund government policies. They argue that moving these funds off consumer bills would lower the average household bill by as much as £250 annually. This estimate includes a £150 saving from previous cuts to green energy schemes and an expected 20% reduction in electricity prices for businesses. The letter specifically requests the end of levies for nuclear power projects, the warm homes discount scheme, and the feed-in tariff programme, which remains active despite being closed in 2019.
