US Treasury targets four Kataib Hezbollah members and Shams & Bahr Trading Company in new sanctions
The US Treasury announced specific new sanctions against commanders and the trading firm linked to Iran and Hezbollah financing networks on Monday.
On Monday, October 10, the US Department of the Treasury announced new sanctions under the Economic Outcast operation. These measures target networks accused of funding Kataib Hezbollah in Iraq and the Lebanese Hezbollah party. The Office of Foreign Assets Control identified specific targets within these groups, including four members of Kataib Hezbollah and individuals connected to Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces. Washington also sanctioned Shams & Bahr Trading Company in Dubai for transferring millions of dollars from Iraq to Iran using a hawala system. The sanctions extend to operators of financial exchanges and transporters involved in moving resources for the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps across Iraq, Lebanon, the United Arab Emirates, and Turkey. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that the US aims to identify and exclude agents who finance terrorism or evade international sanctions from the American financial system.
