Italy rises to lead EU pay transparency in job ads

Salary information now appears in 61% of Italian job postings, up from 26% last year. Italy is the only major European economy to meet the EU Pay Transparency Directive deadline.

The European Union requires companies to disclose salary ranges in job advertisements. The deadline for implementation was set for June 7 this year. Most member states have failed to comply with the rule, but Italy has successfully enforced it. Data from hiring platform Indeed shows a dramatic shift. In July of the previous year, only 26% of Italian job postings included salary figures. By July this year, that number grew to 61%. Consequently, Italy now holds the highest share of salaried job ads among the five largest European economies. Experts note that transparency helps reduce pay discrimination and narrows the gender pay gap. Pawel Adrjan, director of economic research at Indeed, stated that regulation is making a real difference. This regulatory success stands in contrast to other major regions still waiting for compliance.
