Sweden purchases ten Lockheed Martin HIMARS systems for €630 million
Sweden agreed to buy ten High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems worth €630 million, with deliveries starting in 2027.
The Swedish Ministry of Defence confirmed Monday that its armed forces will acquire ten High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) units from Lockheed Martin. The total contract value is €630 million. First shipments are scheduled for 2027, funded through the nation's regular military investment plan. Sweden described the transaction as filling a specific gap in its arsenal. Unlike conventional guns, these rocket artillery systems provide greater range and enable precision strikes over large areas. They are designed to work alongside existing Archer artillery rather than replace them. Compatibility with NATO allies remains a key design feature. Swedish Defence Minister Pål Jonson signed a joint declaration on this procurement with Finland's Antti Häkkänen. The agreement outlines future cooperation regarding rocket artillery coordination.
