Liberia signs $60 million deal to revive coffee industry for 200,000 farmers
J.R. Farms Group and Liberia's Ministry of Agriculture signed a US$60 million implementation agreement on June 8, 2026, to scale up the nation's coffee sector over the next two decades.
In Monrovia, officials announced the signing of a US$60 million implementation agreement between Liberia's Ministry of Agriculture and J.R. Farms Group Inc. The deal aims to revitalize the country's coffee industry through a 20-year partnership lasting from 2026 to 2045. Under this framework, the project will focus on improving agricultural practices by distributing quality seedlings, establishing commercial nursery hubs, and providing training for extension workers. A core component involves processing support through the construction of coffee washing stations to enhance product quality. The initiative explicitly targets more than 200,000 smallholder farmers across seven counties, including Bomi, Bong, Lofa, Nimba, Grand Gedeh, Maryland, and Grand Cape Mount. Production efforts emphasize Liberica, Robusta, and Arabica varieties. Government officials stated the agreement seeks to strengthen Liberia's position in regional and international markets while boosting rural incomes. J.R. Farms Group founder Rotimi Opeyemi Olawale confirmed that signing marked the commencement of progress recorded since the main partnership was finalized in June 2026. The project intends to build market infrastructure designed for exporting Liberian coffee globally.
