India's capital markets are witnessing a structural shift driven by growing institutional participation. Mutual fund assets under management reached ₹85.76 lakh crore in July 2026, nearly tripling from ₹35.32 lakh crore recorded in July 2021. The number of investor folios increased from 10.55 crore to 28.09 crore over the same period. Beyond mutual funds, Alternative Investment Funds, insurers, pension funds, global institutions, and family offices are participating at various stages of capital formation. India recorded 109 mainboard IPOs in 2025 that raised ₹1.76 lakh crore. The second half of 2026 is expected to show stronger capital formation, potentially surpassing 2025's total. Market data from 2026 indicates average subscription rates are improving as a deeper pool of conviction builds around the primary market.
