India's IPO fundraising may reach record Rs 2 lakh crore in 2026
Strong second-half activity from July through August has accelerated the primary market. Mahavir Lunawat predicts total 2026 proceeds will exceed last year's Rs 1.76 lakh crore, approaching a potential record of Rs 2 lakh crore.
India's Initial Public Offering (IPO) market is expected to surpass the fundraising level achieved in 2025. The year began slowly with January through June showing subdued activity. However, momentum shifted significantly starting in July and continuing into August. During this period, a strong revival occurred across the sector. Mahavir Lunawat, Chief Management Director of Pantomath Capital, noted that January to August saw sixty-nine IPOs raise nearly Rs 74,000 crore. This figure already exceeds the total raised by the same companies in the corresponding twelve-month period of 2025. Analysts believe this trajectory suggests 2026 will be a stronger year if market conditions remain supportive. The primary market's focus remains on specific mega issues. Two major candidates driving anticipation are Jio Platforms and NSE. Both entities are currently listed in a pipeline to launch before the end of the calendar year. In addition to these large-sized problems, a long queue of mid-sized and small-sized issues is expected to keep the sector active throughout the remaining months. The full-year number relies on whether one or both mega IPOs successfully hit the street. If they do, the total fundraising figure will likely reach close to Rs 2 lakh crore. This target represents a significant jump from the approximately Rs 1.76 lakh crore raised in 2025.
