John Ternus becomes Apple's third CEO in history since 1997, taking over from Tim Cook on September 1
Apple's share price rose over 2,000% under Cook, who led the company for 15 years. John Ternus is officially named as Cook's successor and will debut new AI products at a September 9 event.
On September 1, Apple confirmed John Ternus as its next chief executive officer. This marks his third tenure in this specific role since 1997. Ternus replaces Tim Cook after 15 years of leadership. Before becoming CEO, Ternus worked closely with Cook on strategy. Analysts note that the company has sold more than 3.1 billion iPhones and its share price increased by more than 2,000% during Cook's tenure. Critics argue Apple has fallen behind rivals in artificial intelligence adoption. Ternus is scheduled to make his public debut at a September 9 product launch event titled Surprise and Shine. At the event, he will announce an initial foldable iPhone model and an updated version of Siri powered by AI. Francisco Jeronimo, VP for Data and Analytics at IDC, stated that recent announcements were planned during Cook's time in charge.
