Germany GDP up 0.3% in Q2 2026, beating forecasts

Germany's official statistics office reported a 0.3% GDP increase in the second quarter of 2026, marking strong growth after two previous quarters. The Ifo Institute now predicts at least 1.3% annual growth for 2026.

German authorities recorded economic expansion of 0.3% in the second quarter of 2026, surpassing prior estimates and continuing an upward trend from the previous two quarters. Three major research organizations—the Ifo Institute, the Kiel Institute for the World Economy, and the Leibniz Institute for Economic Research—revised their 2026 growth forecasts to 1.3% or higher. Clemens Fuest, president of the Ifo Institute, stated that current data suggests a sustained recovery rather than a temporary spike. Carsten Brzeski, ING's global head of macro research, described the economic resilience as stronger than anticipated while noting that underlying structural challenges persist. The Ifo business climate index registered its best annual reading in August. Despite this progress, the positive momentum remains unconfirmed over the long term by analysts.
