Xiaomi launches the Xiaomi 18 Fold phone priced at $1,639 with a 24 billion-transistor chip
Xiaomi unveiled its new 18 Fold smartphone featuring a proprietary Xring O3 processor and domestic memory chips.
Beijing-based Xiaomi Co. introduced the 18 Fold on Monday, a foldable mobile phone designed to compete directly with Apple and Huawei. Lei Jun, founder and CEO, stated the device features a 7.58-inch inner display and utilizes LPDDR6 memory chips manufactured by ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT). The company highlighted a new Xring O3 system-on-chip containing 24 billion transistors. This represents a 26 percent increase in transistor count from the previous Xring O1 model launched last year. Lei Jun noted the Xring O3 CPU performance is 60 percent higher than the predecessor, while power consumption for certain tasks decreased by 25 percent. The phone incorporates a reinforced hinge structure to improve durability and uses a high-strength aluminium frame with strengthened cover glass. Sales begin at 10 am on Thursday with a price of 10,999 yuan (US$1,639).
