UAE accelerating port capacity and trade corridors amid Iran conflict

United Arab Emirates President adviser Anwar Gargash stated the country is expanding port capacity on its eastern coast while strengthening pipelines, railways, and alternative cargo corridors. These infrastructure projects aim to reduce exposure to disruption from the war with Iran. The fighting has already increased the urgency of delivery for maritime security and trade routes. Gargash noted that much of the planning was underway before the conflict but the situation now demands immediate action. He highlighted the ongoing missile and drone attacks against the UAE over several weeks, noting about 3,300 weapons have been fired at the country. Most intercepted by air defenses, yet many strikes targeted civilian infrastructure. The Strait of Hormuz remains a central point of confrontation. Gargash emphasized that no single state should control the waterway and rejected using shipping access as an instrument of coercion.
