Thailand targets high-income economy status within 12 years through structural overhaul
Thailand's National Economic and Social Development Council mandates a radical restructure of its industrial base to reach high-income status. Simultaneously, the Baht strengthens against the US Dollar at levels between 32.70 and 33.30.
Thailand's National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC) has declared a need for a radical overhaul of its production structure to achieve high-income status within 12 years. The agency prioritizes investment in high-tech industries, artificial intelligence data infrastructure, and future food production. Officials warn against debt-funded populist policies that threaten long-term growth. This strategic shift aims to convert foreign direct investment into local supply chains, skilled employment, and sustainable domestic capital.
The baht is currently attracting attention as regional currencies benefit from a weaker US Dollar. OCBC Bank notes that further appreciation may face resistance from the Bank of Thailand due to export competitiveness constraints. Trading signals suggest support and resistance levels within a specific range around USD/THB 32.70 and 33.30. The Securities Exchange index closed at 1,595.16, reflecting a modest gain in trading volume.
