Philippines sets $34.4 billion AI data centre target, aiming for 1.5 GW by 2033
The Philippines finalized a masterplan targeting a total capacity of 1.5 gigawatts by 2033 through massive public and private investment.
The Department of Information and Communications Technology launched the Philippines AI+ Infrastructure Masterplan on September 8, setting a target for total artificial intelligence data centre capacity to reach 1.5 gigawatts by 2033. Officials plan to deploy approximately 400 megawatts of power by 2030, representing a growth from an initial baseline of roughly 50 megawatts. Information and Communications Technology Secretary Henry Aguda confirmed that two US-headquartered hyperscalers are conducting due diligence on sites within the Bataan-Clark and Batangas-Aurora corridors. Each of these companies is currently evaluating the potential for about 200 megawatts of capacity over a five-year period. Aguda emphasized that these evaluations represent projects under consideration rather than final commitments, noting that no specific investment timetable has been released. The masterplan seeks to integrate public infrastructure spending with substantial private investment in computing power, electricity grids, connectivity networks, water systems, and workforce training. Aguda stated that the corridor-based site selection process is designed to reduce the typical six to nine months required for hyperscalers to identify suitable land and utility requirements before making final decisions.
