Germany plans mobile drone defense units after failed airport attack

German authorities are developing a new security package to counter drone attacks, cyber intrusions, and other forms of sabotage by Russia. This plan follows a failed drone attack at a major airport last month. Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt stated during an interview with Bild am Sonntag that hybrid Russian operations have become routine. He noted that such attacks will likely increase but emphasized that Germany can defend itself. Under the new measures, mobile police resources for drone defense will be expanded. Rapid-deployment anti-drone units will be stationed in cities to protect critical transport hubs and government districts from aerial threats. The plan also includes protecting critical infrastructure operators, specifically energy utilities and defense contractors. Russian officials reject claims of involvement. Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov denied responsibility and labeled the accusations as the beginning of a real war. Russia maintains it is not conducting operations in Western Europe.
