Ford commits to expanding coverage to 60% of the Australian market within three years
President Fadi Mawal unveiled a strategy targeting significant growth in Australia as competition from Chinese brands intensifies. New vehicles including the $50,000 electric Transit City van will help achieve this goal.
Ford Australia aims to increase its market segment coverage to roughly 60 percent within three years. President Fadi Mawal stated that current participation sits between 25 and 30 percent of the market. The company intends to grow by launching a pure electric Transit City van priced at $50,000. A hybrid SUV called the Bronco Basecamp will also be introduced; production will occur in China under a joint venture with Jiangling Motors. Pricing for the SUV is not yet revealed but analysts expect it to reach around $50,000. Both models feature design elements such as pop-top roofs and folding tables to increase passenger comfort and utility. In August, Ford slipped from third to seventh place among top-selling brands in Australia. Its pickup truck remains its main seller. The company does not specify which competitors are driving these sales declines.
