Dollar jumps 0.37% as US adds 162,000 jobs in August
The US dollar index climbed after employment data showed a robust labor market expansion that exceeded analyst forecasts.
The U.S. dollar gained ground on Friday following employment statistics released for August. Employers added 162,000 jobs, surpassing the 56,000 positions expected by economists. This strong figure comes after July saw an unexpected decline of 23,000 jobs. The unemployment rate remained flat at 4.1 percent. The dollar index rose 0.37 percent to close at 99.33, measuring the greenback against a basket of currencies including the euro and yen. Conversely, the euro fell 0.28 percent to $1.1592 per unit. The Japanese yen weakened 0.41 percent to 156.45 yen per dollar. These movements occurred within an international financial context where investors are adjusting expectations regarding future interest rate decisions based on labor market trends.
