DBS Bank Sued for US$1 billion by 1MDB-linked Liquidators
Liquidators of four entities linked to the 1MDB scandal have filed a $1.03 billion lawsuit against DBS Bank, which denies any liability and has made no financial provision.
Liquidators for four companies involved in the recovery of assets stolen from Malaysia's 1MDB fund have filed a lawsuit seeking US$1.03 billion against DBS Bank. The claimants represent Blackrock Commodities, Platinum Global Luxury Services, Affinity Equity International Partners, and TKIL Global Investments. They are requesting damages totaling approximately S$1.298 billion. This legal action follows the discovery of misappropriated funds within the 1Malaysia Development Berhad scandal, which saw US authorities confirm at least US$4.5 billion was embezzled since 2009. DBS Bank stated it had no knowledge of any claims against it when the scandal initially unfolded. The lender explicitly rejected the new lawsuit and promised to defend its position vigorously. DBS also confirmed it has set aside zero funds for this specific litigation. The four companies whose liquidators are suing were part of broader recovery efforts initiated after global investigations uncovered the fraud ring led by former Prime Minister Najib Razak.
