ByteDance secures $29.6 billion syndicated loan for AI expansion
The TikTok owner signed a nearly $30 billion deal with lenders from China, the US, and Europe, making it Asia's second-largest dollar loan this year. Proceeds will fund capital projects including overseas data centers.
ByteDance has secured a $29.6 billion syndicated loan from nearly 30 banks. The facility is one of Asia's largest dollar-denominated loans this year and exceeded an initial target of $20 billion due to strong lender demand. Participants include major lenders from the United States, Europe, Singapore, and China, with Chinese institutions representing more than 60 percent of total commitments. JPMorgan and Citigroup are coordinating the unsecured financing. The deal carries a three-year term with an option to extend it by two additional years. Company representatives stated proceeds would be used for general corporate purposes but acknowledged the funding primarily supports artificial intelligence plans, including projects outside China. Sources indicated the signing is expected shortly.
