Nigerian investors ranked second among foreign owners of UK buy-to-let companies in 2026
Hamptons data reveals Nigeria's dramatic rise in British rental property ownership, surpassing Ireland and Poland. This marks a significant shift from the previous decade when Nigeria was not in the top five foreign nationalities.
Nigerian nationals have risen to second place among foreign owners of UK buy-to-let companies in 2026, according to Hamptons analysis of Companies House records. They are positioned behind India and ahead of Ireland, Poland, and Turkey. This ranking has been maintained since 2023, despite Nigeria not appearing in the top five rankings from 2016 to 2022. The data suggests Nigerian investors are increasingly using Britain as a location for building and preserving wealth alongside migration and education. Context indicates a broader transformation in the British market, with Hamptons estimating that 66,587 new companies were established to hold buy-to-let property in 2025. That figure represents an 8 percent increase compared to 2024 and a 363 percent increase over the prior decade.
