ANP Approves 24 Blocks for Exploration in Potiguar Basin
The Brazilian National Petroleum Agency approved 24 new exploration blocks in the Potiguar basin, with offers beginning in October.
On Friday, Brazil's National Petroleum Agency (ANP) approved 24 exploratory blocks in the terrestrial portion of the Potiguar basin. These areas are scheduled to join future rounds of the Permanent Concession Tender (OPC). Offers for these blocks will not begin until the sixth round, expected on October 7. The list includes block POT-T-551, covering the Tabuleiro do Norte region in Ceará. Recent drilling by a farmer there found dark liquid later confirmed as crude oil by the ANP's Center for Technological Research and Analysis (CPT). Approved blocks must complete environmental analysis and joint notifications from the Ministries of Mines and Energy and the Environment and Climate Change before public hearings.
