Aneel approves 30-year extension for Itiquira and Guaporé hydropower plants
The Brazilian energy regulator has granted a one-time 30-year concession renewal for two major hydropower facilities in Mato Grosso.
On Tuesday, the Directorate of the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) approved a 30-year extension for hydroelectric power plants Itiquira and Guaporé. The decision confirms that both facilities met specific requirements under Law No. 12.783/2013, which allows single-term renewals only if operators satisfy defined conditions. Key among these conditions is compliance with quality standards set by Aneel. Plant Itiquira operates within the municipality of Itiquira in Mato Grosso state and is owned by Elera Renováveis. The Guaporé facility serves the municipalities of Pontes e Lacerda, also in Mato Grosso, and is managed by Mineração Santa Elina Indústria e Comércio together with Tangará Energia. Aneel stated that adherence to service quality benchmarks remains a mandatory criterion for any concession renewal under the current legal framework.
