Alibaba ordered staff to stop using Claude following AI ban; Anthropic accuses China giant of fake account training campaigns

Alibaba has directed employees to cease using Anthropic's Claude Code after US detection flagged its Chinese connections. Conversely, Anthropic claims Alibaba generated roughly 25,000 artificial accounts to train its own models on the US program.

Chinese technology firm Alibaba has commanded staff to halt access to Anthropic's Claude Code following a discovery that the US coding application flagged usage originating from China. Anthropic has launched a counter-accusation, stating it is preventing Chinese companies from utilizing the platform globally. The AI company alleges Alibaba conducted extensive data mining operations by creating approximately 25,000 fictitious user accounts to feed information back into its proprietary model training process. While Alibaba initiated this restriction due to external flags, Anthropic argues the primary objective was to neutralize a competitor's growth and influence through large-scale dataset manipulation rather than simple compliance with usage rules.
