Sudan Fuel Price Set at SDG38,805 Per Gallon Amid Deepening Shortages
Shortages return to Khartoum as fuel prices rise across Sudanese states, with households facing severe hardship.
Fuel prices increased in multiple Sudanese states as shortages and long queues returned to Khartoum, intensifying pressure on families struggling with soaring food costs and a devaluing pound. The White Nile State Council for the Organisation and Development of Public Transport approved a new fuel price composition, fixing the price of petrol at SDG38,805 per gallon in Kosti, Rabak, El Guteina, and Ed Duweim localities. The council recommended adding SDG20 per gallon to cover transport costs across various towns. In White Nile State, residents report daily struggles to afford basic necessities. Wa'ad Idris, a mother of four, noted that cooking oil rose from SDG10,000 to SDG19,000 per container, while the price of onions jumped from SDG2,000 to SDG7,000 per bottle. A pound of milk for children costs approximately SDG3,000. Idris stated that her family reduced meals from two daily servings to one basic meal due to the inability to meet simple needs. She emphasized that inflation has made it impossible for citizens to satisfy their daily requirements despite previous difficulties during the conflict.
