Uganda GDP Reaches $69.35 Billion in FY2027/28 Budget Message

President Museveni announced Uganda's nominal GDP is now $69.35 billion with per capita income at $1,389 during the National Budget Conference.

At the National Budget Conference for Financial Year 2027/28 in Kampala, President Yoweri Museveni delivered a message stating Uganda has established a strong economic foundation for faster transformation. Vice President Jessica Alupo conveyed the address on his behalf. Museveni noted the economy recorded sustained growth exceeding five percent despite global shocks. The country's nominal Gross Domestic Product reached Shs250.4 trillion, equivalent to $69.35 billion. Per capita Gross National Income rose to $1,389, surpassing the lower-middle-income threshold of $1,136. Museveni highlighted export performance and expanded access to social services as key progress indicators. He pointed to dependence on rainfall for agriculture, limited value addition, and market access constraints as major hurdles needing resolution.
