Rwanda approves $80 million World Bank loan for business financing
Rwanda's Chamber of Deputies approved a draft law to ratify an $80 million loan from the World Bank to support MSMEs affected by financing constraints.
The Rwandan Chamber of Deputies passed a draft law on September 10, authorizing the ratification of an $80 million loan from the World Bank's International Development Association. The agreement was signed in Kigali on June 25, 2026. Finance Minister Yusuf Murangwa said the Financial Inclusion and Resilience for Enterprises support project began in 2021 to help businesses affected by pandemic-related economic disruptions. Initial financing had created demand from businesses meeting eligibility requirements, prompting the World Bank to provide additional funds. The bill received approval from all 76 members present during the plenary session. Murangwa noted that while many enterprises have benefited, new applications continue to arrive from qualified businesses needing more capital.
