Lulu Cable Co-develops 60 Tbps System for Kenya's 500km Coast
Kenyan and Mauritian firms joined forces to launch LuLu, a dual-path cable system designed to serve the country's industrial zones along the Indian Ocean.
The LuLu Coastal Cable System, Kenya's first fully protected submarine infrastructure, was unveiled at ITW Africa 2026. Co-developed by INDOI Ltd and Blue Trade Investments Limited, the project links five landing points stretching 500 kilometers from Mombasa to Lamu. Five entities collaborated on the development: INDOI Ltd, Blue Trade Investments Limited, ARISE IIP, AfriTrade Consulting Group, and Kingdom Bank. The system integrates a seabed route with a parallel terrestrial pathway to ensure redundancy for mission-critical users. It utilizes Dense Wave Division Multiplexing technology within the 1550nm wavelength window. The cable contains 144 fibers per pair, offering a capacity of up to 60 terabits per second. ARISE IIP operates the Vipingo Special Economic Zone, which has an industrial-digital infrastructure value of $3 billion. While INDOI Ltd is based in Mauritius, the system specifically targets connectivity for governments and international operators on Kenya's coast.
