Ethiopian Airlines raises Nigeria flight frequency to 53 weekly, adds Port Harcourt route
Ethiopian Airlines has increased its operations in Nigeria, raising total flights to 53 per week by adding a new service to Port Harcourt and increasing services to Lagos and Kano.
General Manager of Ethiopian Airlines in Nigeria, Firiehiwot Mekonnen, announced the expansion on Monday. The airline will start four weekly flights to Port Harcourt, bringing its total frequency to 53 flights per week for the country. Existing operations include 21 weekly flights to Lagos, with up to three daily services available, and an increase to Kano by four flights, now totaling 11 flights a week. Other served destinations include Abuja and Enugu. The carrier also commenced passenger service to Port Harcourt as part of this expansion.
Mekonnen stated that the increased capacity reflects confidence in Nigeria's aviation market and its wider economic potential. She emphasized that the changes provide passengers with more flexibility, greater seat availability, better connectivity, and access to more attractive and competitive fares. The expansion is intended to support Nigeria's tourism, trade, investment, and employment sectors while creating additional business opportunities for local service providers. She noted that every additional flight creates economic activity, generating more business for Nigerian ground handling companies, airports, travel agencies, and hotels.
