Micron to award Taiwan workers up to 68 months of pay for fiscal 2026 following strike standoff
The US chipmaker plans massive bonus payouts for its Taiwan workforce after failing to resolve a labor dispute. More than 60,000 employees globally are expected to receive rewards.
Micron Technology announced on Friday that its direct labor employees in Taiwan will receive bonuses totaling 35 to 68 months of pay for fiscal 2026. The minimum cash compensation for these workers is NT$1.7 million, approximately US$53,809. The company described this offer as its strongest ever, stating that more than 60,000 staff members worldwide will receive fiscal 2026 rewards. These payouts apply to employees who joined the company before August 29, 2025. For entry-level engineers, total rewards average NT$3.4 million, including an average of NT$2.9 million in cash compensation and additional equity grants. Every employee will also receive an annual equity grant. This announcement follows a mediation meeting between Micron and the Taoyuan union, which represents around two-thirds of Taiwan's workforce. Unions signaled widespread support among members for a strike, stating they have not reached consensus on changes to the rewards system that would allocate 15% of operating profit to bonuses. Micron employs approximately 15,000 people in Taiwan and has invested more than NT$1.6 trillion there.
