$17.5 billion: Robinhood crypto volume hits $17.5b in August despite year-over-year decline

Robinhood reported August crypto trading volume reached $17.5 billion, a 61% month-on-month increase driven largely by its acquired exchange Bitstamp.

Robinhood announced in its August 2026 monthly operating report that total cryptocurrency trading volume increased 61% compared to July, reaching $17.5 billion. However, this figure remained 38% lower than the same period in 2025. The online brokerage attributed most of the activity to Bitstamp, an exchange acquired in June 2025, which accounted for $10.1 billion of the total volume. Bitstamp's own volume rose 53% from July but fell 30% year-over-year. Conversely, the volume through the Robinhood app increased 72% month-on-month, though it dropped 46% from August 2025 levels. Over the second quarter, Bitstamp contributed $22 billion to Robinhood's total crypto volume of $40 billion, compared to $18 billion generated by the Robinhood app alone. Crypto transaction revenue fell 38% year-on-year to $100 million, down from roughly $160 million in the prior year. Company growth in event contracts, options, and equities more than offset the crypto decline, resulting in record quarterly earnings. The report noted that volume from the Robinhood Chain was excluded from these calculations.
