Finance Minister Durigan Promises to Maintain Social Benefits Tied to Minimum Wage

Brazil Finance Minister Dario Durigan stated on Friday that social and pension payments will remain connected to the minimum wage if his administration stays in power. During an interview with Band News FM, he declared that the government is not currently debating the topic of unbinding these benefits from the salary floor. Despite this commitment, Durigan emphasized the need to reduce compulsory spending while improving the country's fiscal framework. He argued that achieving better fiscal rules requires reducing exceptions and noted that no simple solution exists. The minister mentioned a planned linear reduction of 10% in tax incentives for lobbying sectors as part of his strategy. While aiming to increase spending on health and education, he admitted that budget line adjustments are necessary to tackle the nation's inequality and privilege issues.
