Tungatinah Power Station fire destroys station supplying 5 percent of Tasmania's energy
A major fire broke at the Tungatinah Power Station on Wednesday night, gutting the facility that provides five percent of the state's electricity.
Authorities declared it unsafe to enter the Tungatinah Power Station in the Central Highlands following a fire that started Wednesday night. The station, which supplies approximately 5 per cent of Tasmania's energy, suffered total destruction during the blaze. Officials stated that investigating teams are currently unable to gain entry into the burnt-out industrial building due to dangerous conditions and loose debris inside.
The Tasmania Fire Service is continuing its investigation into the incident. Deputy Chief Officer Matt Lowe confirmed that entering the scene remains difficult for investigators at this stage. To assess the damage, service crews utilized a drone to inspect the interior before planning future access points. It is expected that several days will be required to complete the examination of the site.
