TMK Energy achieves 810 cubic meters daily gas output in Mongolia pilot project

TMK Energy reported a four per cent monthly increase in gas production at its wholly-owned Gurvantes XXXV coal seam gas pilot project in Mongolia. The surge brought average daily gas production for August to 810 cubic metres per day, equivalent to approximately 28,600 standard cubic feet per day (scfd). This figure represents an improvement over the 778 cubic metres per day recorded in July. Production reached higher levels recently, with instantaneous flow rates spiking above 50,000 scfd. The company is currently preparing to initiate a new drilling and well workover program following a contract agreement with Major Drilling. These operational developments align with a national energy strategy in Mongolia, where authorities are prioritizing gas-fired power generation to address grid constraints caused by ageing Soviet-era coal plants lacking reserve capacity. The government aims to reduce reliance on importing electricity from Russia and China due to high transmission losses and frequent blackouts.
