Senate scheduled cloture vote on CLARITY Act for Tuesday

The US Senate plans to attempt passage of the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act this Tuesday with help from some Democrats. Failure could delay clear cryptocurrency regulations until 2030.

Lawmakers in the US Senate are set to hold a cloture vote on the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, known as the CLARITY Act, for Tuesday. The measure aims to provide regulatory clarity for digital assets and was pushed by many within the cryptocurrency industry. Senator John Thune, the Republican majority leader, organized this specific vote, though it requires at least 60 votes including support from a handful of Democrats to end debate. If the bill fails to secure three-fifths of the Senate, the chamber has fewer than 36 days before the start of the 2027 Congress. A new session in 2027 could feature Democrats in control depending on midterms. Senator Cynthia Lummis, a key supporter of the legislation, warned on September 6 that lawmakers might not pass the bill until 2030 without an agreement. She is also not running for reelection in 2026. All 435 seats in the House and 33 in the Senate are available in the upcoming midterm elections.
