Iran President Masoud Pezeshkian meets UAE Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled in India to discuss ending hostilities
Iran and the United Arab Emirates agreed on Tuesday to shift their focus from past conflicts to building a future relationship during a high-level meeting at the BRICS summit.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian met with Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in New Delhi, India, on September 12, 2026. During their conversation, President Pezeshkian stated that both nations want to turn the page regarding their deteriorated relations. He described the interaction as constructive for the first time since the war and subsequent incidents in the Persian Gulf began following US-Israeli attacks on Iran in February. The two leaders discussed how they should look forward rather than dwelling on past events. Prior to this meeting, the UAE announced it suspended trade and financial exchanges with Iran in August. After Tehran retaliated against American allies in the region during the war initiated in February, the UAE absorbed much of the resulting impact. President Pezeshkian emphasized that the agreement involves jointly constructing a future for both countries.
