Mistral AI raises €3 billion in Samsung-led funding round
Paris-based Mistral AI secured €3 billion in Series D financing led by Samsung, nearly doubling its valuation to €11.7 billion after 2025.
Mistral AI announced a record €3 billion Series D funding round on Tuesday, marking a significant expansion three years after its seed stage. Samsung led the investment alongside the EU-backed Scaleup Europe Fund managed by EQT and existing partner PSG Equity. This capital injection follows a valuation of €11.7 billion set in 2025 during a €1.7 billion Series C round headed by ASML. CEO Arthur Mensch confirmed the funds will primarily expand physical data centers to increase owned computing capacity. He stated the amount of compute Mistral owns will grow by approximately 100 percent over the next five years, enabling training of larger models. Mistral is currently operating or constructing facilities in France and Sweden, including a site outside Paris. The company has already deployed €4 billion on data centers across the region and previously secured debt financing in March. Microsoft serves as an investor and agreed to fund capacity from its European network utilizing Nvidia chips.
