Sales of non-exchange-traded investment products in Hong Kong hit a record US$1.3 trillion in 2025, representing a 63% increase compared to the previous year. A joint survey by the Securities and Futures Commission and the Hong Kong Monetary Authority shows total transaction volumes reached HK$9.9 trillion. Investor participation drove this surge, with transactions completed by more than 1.6 million individuals, a 33% rise from the prior year. The number of licensed corporations engaged in product sales also grew 9% to 452 firms, while large firms recording significant volumes increased 27% to 128 institutions. Collective investment schemes emerged as the leading product category, surging 85% and overtaking structured products for the first time since 2020. Within this segment, money market funds accounted for 88% of sales by large firms, up 80% in the preceding year. Kenneth Hui, executive director for banking conduct at the HKMA, described the growth as a testament to investor confidence in Hong Kong's asset management industry.
